Full job description
What you will do:
The Engineering Project Leader (EPL) provides technical leadership and coordination across all engineering activities within a program, bridging program management and engineering execution. The EPL leads a multidisciplinary engineering team through the full product development lifecycle, ensuring technical deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and performance standards. The EPL is accountable for planning, coordinating, assessing, and controlling engineering execution across the product lifecycle, including requirements definition and decomposition, system and product development, integration and testing, engineering builds, system transition, and product release. This role ensures alignment to customer and OEM requirements while driving risk-informed, system-level decisions and successful transition of products into manufacturing and operations.
How you will do it:
Lead and matrix-manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, integrating activities across systems, functional, product, and other engineering disciplines to achieve technical, timing, cost, quality, BOM, and industrialization targets.
Serve as the primary technical authority for the program, ensuring engineering execution aligns with product requirements, program objectives, customer expectations, and overall project commitments.
Partner closely with the Program Manager to align technical execution with overall program scope, schedule, cost, resources, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and commercial objectives.
Own engineering project planning, including development of engineering milestones, cross-functional sub-milestones, work packages, resource plans, and detailed engineering schedules aligned with the overall program schedule.
Lead engineering execution throughout the product lifecycle and V-model, including requirements decomposition and definition, design and development, system integration, verification and validation, testing, and product/system release.
Monitor and control engineering cost, schedule, quality, performance, and technical maturity; conduct technical reviews and audits and drive corrective and preventive actions when required.
Ensure achievement of required product maturity and readiness throughout development, including technology readiness, design maturity, system readiness, and manufacturing readiness.
Own and drive product and system release activities, ensuring required engineering deliverables, approvals, documentation, and readiness criteria are completed on schedule.
Lead engineering gate deliverables and technical reviews, including requirements sign-off, design sign-off, safety sign-off, DFMEA, DVP&R, and other program-specific engineering milestones.
Own product Bill of Material (BOM) approval and release, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with engineering and manufacturing requirements.
Coordinate system analysis, decision management, risk management, and technical trade-off activities to enable timely, well-informed engineering decisions.
Prepare technical decision options and recommendations for change control boards, leadership reviews, and management escalation.
Tailor engineering standards, processes, and methodologies to meet the specific needs and complexity of the program while maintaining required engineering rigor.
Coordinate configuration management, information management, engineering measurements, and technical documentation to maintain control and traceability of program information.
Plan and manage engineering sample builds, including sample planning, build readiness, engineering build management, sample release, and adherence to timing and quality requirements.
Serve as the primary engineering interface to manufacturing, supporting successful realization of engineering and sample builds and ensuring manufacturing requirements are incorporated into engineering execution.
Own the timely release of engineering documentation and technical information required by manufacturing plants to execute sample builds and support product realization.
Lead system transition to production and/or operations, including readiness, installation, acceptance, and handoff activities.
Act as the primary internal technical interface to program management, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, commercial, and other cross-functional organizations.
Serve as the primary external technical interface for the customer/OEM engineering team, ensuring technical alignment, communication, issue resolution, and adherence to customer requirements.
Organize and lead cross-functional engineering meetings, establish agendas, drive actions, and ensure timely resolution of technical issues and decisions.
Manage engineering documentation and maintain a complete, accurate, and controlled archive of technical information throughout the program lifecycle.
