The Position
Transportation SpecialistJob Summary
This is a Full-time, salaried position located in Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA.
Pay range: $59,000-$67,000
JOB PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES:
Act as the local main point of contact for any topics linked to logistics. Manages customs
documentation, trade compliance, and logistics coordination for goods moving across
international borders, ensuring shipments meet regulatory requirements. Provide for the
satisfaction of customer requirements through booking of customer outbound transportation
through the Transport Management System (TMS) for LTL shipments, as well as coordination of
deliveries with customers. Assist the Transportation Specialists in day to day operations.
KEY RESULTS AREAS / PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
While the position is based on a structured process, flexibility is required to handle special
customer needs within the constraints of the local market for Logistics services. The function is very
important in that it provides an opportunity to positively differentiate our company from our competitors and add utility to our products.
● Coordinates with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers
● Resolves customs holds or documentation issues
● Maintains records of trade transactions for audit and compliance purpose
● Prepare and verify customs documentation for imports and exports
● Support department to achieve transportation cost and service objectives
● Maintain logistics partner rate databases & freight invoice audit
● Review / Audit invoices from carriers, railroads, and transload warehouses
● Liaison between Operations and Sales while the site manages issues (allocation,
emergencies, tracking, etc).
● Single point of contact to receive questions and seek answers to logistics questions.
● Prepare Warehouse Fuel Surcharges to be input into TMX
● Prepare and distribute weekly fuel surcharge analysis to the B&I sales team
● Update Fuel Surcharge costs in our TMX database/spreadsheet on a weekly basis
● Assist in tracking premium freight spend.
● Responsibilities for booking LTL’s.
● Responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound movements for production/operations
department
● Responsible for coordinating drayage movements for imported products
● Assist Customer Service & Logistics Manager on other activities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
Knowledge/Education Required:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management
● 2-5 years of experience in international trade, customs, or logistics
● Strong knowledge of customs regulations and trade compliance requirements
● Familiarity with trade management and customs documentation systems
Skills:
● Excellent knowledge in all GSuite Products (a plus)
● Good written and verbal communication skills
● Exceptional interpersonal skills
● Flexibility to perform other departmental positions or special projects assigned
● Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Experience Required:
● Prior experience in transportation and/or logistics
● Experience in SAP
● Experience utilizing Princeton TMX Management System
KEY CHALLENGES
Must be able to mult-task in ensuring all customer orders are delivered within customer
expectations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires remaining in a seated position for long periods of time, the ability to pick, pinch or otherwise work primarily with fingers to operate the keyboard for computer work.
This position requires the employee to frequently walk, bend, stoop and have the ability to lift and or move up to 25 pounds and mostly works in an office or plant environment.
This position is exposed to a cement and often dusty plant work environments and contact with our product.
Based on the hazards of working in a plant/industrial environment, this position requires alertness, the ability to think rationally while working on multiple tasks.
This position needs the ability to express or exchange ideas, provide detailed spoken instructions by means of the spoken word to impact oral information to managers, suppliers, contractors, co-workers, direct report or the public.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
The employee is required to stand, walk, sit and climb
or balance.
