Overview:

The Director of Quality and Patient Safety serves as the facility-based quality leader for Sentara Leigh Hospital, providing strategic oversight for quality outcomes, accreditation, regulatory readiness, patient safety, and performance improvement. This leader partners closely with hospital executives, medical staff, physician leaders, nursing leadership, Infection Prevention, and Risk Management to advance quality outcomes across a leading 274-bed acute care hospital recognized for nursing excellence, stroke care, orthopedic and spine services, heart and vascular care, and maternity services. The Director is responsible for quality improvement programs, event review and root cause analysis, medical staff peer review, accreditation support, and advancing organizational goals related to patient safety, quality performance, and CMS measures. Sentara Leigh Hospital is known for its commitment to innovation, clinical excellence, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the Hampton Roads region.

 

Education

• Bachelor's Degree (Required)
• Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Certification

• Active Registered Nurse license in VA (Required)

Location

• Onsite: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA

Experience  

• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years of clinical management and nursing leadership experience required.
• 3 years hospital quality leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Experience leading quality improvement, accreditation, regulatory readiness, and patient safety initiatives.
• Experience with quality event review, root cause analysis, peer review, and performance improvement programs.
• Knowledge of CMS requirements, quality reporting, and healthcare regulatory standards.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, executives, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and developing quality professionals.


We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $146,702.40 - $228,966.40 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full-time colleague working 2,080 hours annually.

Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 274-bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. Our hospital completed a renovation in 2016, including two new patient towers, a beautiful atrium, and a multi-story parking garage. Sentara Leigh Hospital includes a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital providing patients access to a full continuum of orthopedic care, from the preoperative phase and surgery to rehabilitation and home care services. Along with being a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, we also specialize in orthopedic and spine care, heart, vascular, maternity care, and general surgery. We are also home to the region’s only 24-hour hyperbaric oxygen program that helps speed up the healing of carbon monoxide poisoning, wounds that won’t heal, infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen, airborne chemical exposures, and scuba diving accidents.
