Full job description
Daily Rate: $300-$325/day
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Position Summary
Under the direction of the school leader, the Special Education Substitute Teacher provides instructional services and classroom supervision in the absence of the regular Education Specialist. Follows lesson plans, implements IEP accommodations and modifications, supports student learning and behavioral goals, and maintains a safe, structured learning environment.
Assignments may vary by grade level, student needs, school setting, and assignment length, including both daily substitute coverage and long-term placements.
Responsibilities:
Schedule/Shift:
- Full Day: up to 8 hours
- Half Day: up to 4 hours
- School Year: As needed, including daily, short-term, and long-term assignments
- Schedule follows the assigned school calendar
Key Duties:
- Provides learning experiences and teaches lessons prescribed by the classroom teacher or school administrator.
- Implements IEP accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies to support student success.
- Provides individual and small-group instruction designed to meet diverse student needs.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior necessary to create a safe and effective learning environment.
- Supports students with academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional needs.
- Collaborates with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school personnel as needed.
- Maintains accurate documentation and follows school procedures related to student services.
- Provides appropriate instruction and activities aligned with school and district goals and objectives.
- Follows school protocols, safety procedures, and special education compliance requirements.
Requirements:
Credential:
- Must possess a valid California Education Specialist Credential.
- Must meet all applicable school, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of background screening, TB clearance, credential verification, and onboarding requirements required prior to assignment.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- California Education Specialist Credential required.
Experience:
- Experience working with students with disabilities in K–12 educational settings preferred.
- Experience implementing IEP accommodations, behavioral supports, and differentiated instruction preferred.
