A typical day for an Operating Room Technologist may include:


Preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are available, organized, and functioning properly


Assisting surgeons, registered nurses, and other members of the surgical team by providing skilled scrub support throughout a variety of surgical procedures


Anticipating the needs of the surgical team and responding efficiently to maintain a smooth, safe, and effective operative environment


Maintaining sterile technique and adhering to infection prevention, aseptic practices, and organizational policies throughout every procedure


Handling, organizing, and passing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment with accuracy and attention to detail


Assisting with direct patient care activities before, during, and after surgery while supporting patient safety, comfort, and dignity


Supporting the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of surgical instruments and operating room equipment between procedures


Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other perioperative team members to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care


Participating in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and ongoing professional development to support clinical excellence and continuous learning


Practicing within the legal and professional scope of the Operating Room Technician role while maintaining compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
