Full job description
JOB SUMMARY: Support plumbing repairs, maintenance, and unit renovations across a multifamily portfolio in San Francisco and Oakland. This role focuses on diagnosing and repairing residential plumbing systems in both occupied and vacant units, supporting unit turns and renovations, and performing work in compliance with California and local plumbing codes.
The Plumbing Technician works independently in the field while coordinating closely with supervisors, resident managers, and renovation teams to ensure safe, code-compliant, and high-quality outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain residential plumbing systems including supply, waste, venting, fixtures, and valves
- Complete plumbing work orders and renovation-related plumbing scopes in a timely and professional manner
- Support unit renovations and unit turns, including rough-in installations, fixture replacements, and code upgrades
- Troubleshoot leaks, clogs, pressure issues, and system failures and implement durable repair solutions
- Perform routine and corrective preventative maintenance to reduce repeat service calls
- Work in occupied and unoccupied units with professionalism, cleanliness, and resident awareness
- Coordinate with maintenance supervisors, resident managers, and other trades throughout the workday
- Document completed and open work orders using company maintenance software, including notes and photos
- Track time, mileage, and materials associated with assigned work
- Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicle in safe working condition
- Follow all applicable California Plumbing Code, local jurisdiction requirements, and company safety procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong working knowledge of residential plumbing systems and repair methods
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues independently
- Familiarity with plumbing tools, fixtures, and materials used in multifamily buildings
- Ability to read basic plans, scopes, and work orders
- Comfortable using smartphones and mobile apps for reporting and communication
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in confined or active jobsite conditions
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2–5 years of experience in residential or multifamily plumbing preferred
- California plumbing certification or apprenticeship a plus, but not required for qualified candidates
- Experience working in multifamily or property management environments preferred
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance required
- Must pass an in-person skills assessment
