Full job description
A leading healthcare organization in Dallas is seeking a highly experienced physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Correctional Health Services. This is a unique opportunity to drive impactful, patient-centered healthcare delivery within a complex correctional environment while leading multidisciplinary teams dedicated to improving outcomes for an underserved population.
This leadership role is ideal for a physician who thrives in operational leadership, collaborative care environments, and mission-driven healthcare.
Position Highlights:
• Lead and oversee all medical operations for a comprehensive correctional healthcare program
• Collaborate closely with behavioral health, specialty care, emergency medicine, inpatient teams, and nursing leadership
• Provide clinical oversight for adult health and women s health services
• Supervise and mentor physicians, APPs, residents, and clinical staff
• Drive quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and operational excellence
• Serve as a key liaison between correctional healthcare teams, hospitals, community programs, and law enforcement partners
• Participate in strategic planning, provider recruitment, retention efforts, and policy development
• Champion patient-centered care while addressing complex social determinants of health
Ideal Candidate:
• Experienced physician leader with a passion for serving vulnerable populations
• Strong background in correctional health and multidisciplinary healthcare environments
• Recognized for clinical excellence, leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
• Comfortable navigating fast-paced, evolving healthcare systems with operational oversight responsibilities
• Spanish proficiency is a plus
Requirements:
• Completion of ACGME or AMA-approved residency program
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in an appropriate specialty
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership/management experience in clinical medicine programs
• Prior correctional health experience required
• Texas medical license (or willingness to obtain within 180 days)
• Clean malpractice and license history strongly preferred
• Permanent candidates only
