Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Coordinator to support a variety of accounting, banking, payment processing, and administrative functions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an organized professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in financial and operational processes.

This is a 32-hour-per-week hybrid position requiring one in-office day each week on Tuesdays. The assignment is expected to run through the end of the year, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent full-time role based on business needs and performance. Please see below:

Location: San Diego, CA
Work Schedule: Hybrid | 32 Hours per Week
In-Office Requirement: Tuesdays at our San Diego office located at 1843 Hotel Circle South, San Diego, CA 92108
Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour
Assignment Duration: Immediate start through the end of the year, with the potential to convert to a full-time position.


How you'll make an impact

Cash Management & Banking

  • Process bank deposits and route supporting documentation to appropriate team members
  • Download and maintain bank and investment statements
  • Process Positive Pay files to support fraud prevention controls
  • Pick up and process district-issued checks
  • Review and manage check inventory levels

Disbursements & Payment Processing

  • Print, assemble, and mail outgoing checks through USPS with required documentation
  • Process special mailings, including tax documents and state filings, while maintaining tracking logs
  • Record payments in the eligibility system
  • Download and review daily vendor claims reports
  • Update and maintain monthly vendor reporting

Mail & Document Management

  • Scan and process incoming mail
  • Organize, scan, and file documentation for multiple team members
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical filing systems
  • Support document retention and records management requirements

Administrative & Audit Support

  • Assist with audit preparation and administrative workflows
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and readily accessible for internal and external reviews
  • Support ongoing departmental initiatives and special projects as needed


About You

Required: High school diploma and 2 years related experience or Bachelor's degree required. Must understand bookkeeping/accounting principles.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and office procedures
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
