Job Summary
The Part-Time Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing fiscal reports, and overseeing grant-related accounting activities. This position supports the organization's financial operations by ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), grant requirements, and organizational policies. The Accountant works closely with CFO, accounting team and other program staff to monitor budgets, prepare financial reports, and maintain accountability for grant sources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares monthly and periodic fiscal grant reporting for submission to grantors
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure compliance with grant agreements, funding requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funding and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Process journal entries and maintain supporting schedules and records.
  • Support annual audits and prepare requested financial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational financial regulations and policies.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Provide financial information and analysis to leadership as requested.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of accounting procedures and financial best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA certification preferred but not required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience required.
  • Experience with grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, or governmental accounting preferred.
  • Experience preparing fiscal reports and managing multiple funding sources.
  • Experience supporting annual audits and compliance reviews preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of Federal, State and Private grants
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Knowledge of grant compliance and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, auditors, and funding agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
