Job Description

Music Education Student Assistant Duties


1.Publicity and Communication


  • Update the contact databases, including elementary music specialists, fine arts directors, choir directors, alumni, private schools, homeschool co-ops, etc.
  • Publish and distribute The Lion’s Share: A Newsletter for Music Specialists in Northeast Texas.
  • Publish and distribute The Lion’s Roar (alumni newsletter)
  • Maintain the Music Education Facebook page, website, Instagram, and X.

2. Clinical Teacher Tasks


  • Create document with a table for all Spring 2027 clinical teachers
  • Complete and send out CPE certificates to Cooperating Teachers
  • Send emails to all cooperating teachers asking for words of affirmation to be read at graduation and collect these via Google form
  • Send out and collect graduation reception invitations
  • Update the PPT for the commencement reception

3. Music Education Library


  • Maintain inventory on Charms (or similar software), including books, instruments, music, and teaching materials.
  • Establish a regular maintenance schedule for equipment cleaning, organizing, and repairs.
  • Report or repair any broken or damaged equipment. 
  • Check out materials to faculty and students.

4. Events

  • Assist with all Music Education workshops, receptions, special events, and convocations. These events are sometimes held in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Publicity 
  • Logistics
  • Technology 
  • Set up and breakdown 
  • Gathering a team of helpers
  • Prepare educational materials for teachers whose students attend the Children’s Opera/Musical Theatre/Greenville Concert performance.
  • Assist with Opera on the Road performances. (This is a touring group that performs in several area elementary schools throughout the semester.)

5. Other assignments made according to student's strengths and the needs of the Music Education Coordinator, such as:


  • Serve as a tutor for MUS 450 students.
  • Assist with copies, organization, and other office work as needed.  
  • Transfer all visuals to PowerPoint or similar technology.
  • Assist with research 
  • Learn and use technology, such as Google, Excel, etc.

Weekly:


  • Submit a weekly schedule to the Google folder, detailing the specific tasks you accomplished for your 10 hours of service.
  • Each week, I will add tasks to a list in our Google folder. Please check the list every Monday morning and plot out blocks of time in your calendar to complete the tasks by the deadline. If a deadline is not listed, please have the task completed by the following Sunday and type the date of completion on the form.

Characteristics appreciated in a Student Assistant:


  • Be prompt.
  • Acknowledge every text and email as soon as you read them.
  • Be tidy. Straighten and clear every space before leaving it. Lock all cabinets and doors and clean the white board.
  • Be proactive. If you see a problem, talk with me about how we can best solve it. 
  • If you do not understand the directions I give you, please ask for clarification.
  • Be helpful. “How can I help?” is a welcome phrase!
  • Be curious - ask lots of questions! Spread positive energy.
